TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Skeletal remains have been discovered in the Picture Rocks area, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
The PCSD said a hiker came across the remains near the intersection of Massingale and Van Ark roads late Wednesday, Feb. 12.
There is no danger to the public, but the PCSD is asking residents to stay away from the area.
While authorities have made no connection or mentioned the old case, the remains were found less than a mile from where Sarah Galloway went missing last year.
KOLD News 13 talked with the Galloway family and they said while it is too early to tell, the fact the remains were found so close to their home raises the possibility it is her. The family said authorities have not contacted them.
Galloway, 38, was last seen at a home in the 10600 block of West Massingale Road on March 21, 2019. The home is .5 miles from the intersection of Massingale and Van Ark roads.
Family members have said Galloway has Down syndrome and functions at the level of an 8-year-old. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
The PCSD said it is early in the investigation and there is no word on the sex or identity of the person.
